As I have just recently been crowned Miss Kingman County, many have asked the question "Why?". "Why are you competing?"
"Why should you be Miss Kansas?"
"What makes you think you are ready?"
The answer is simple really. In fact the answer I give others when they ask "why", is directly related with my platform. I'm unstoppable. Perhaps that sounds arrogant, but that's exactly what I am trying to teach my community. So many time we get hung up on what we can't do, instead of realizing what we can. It's time to be comfortable enough with who we are, and recognize that we are unstoppable. We look at our disabilities in life, and refuse to see them as assets. I'm here to challenge that. I'm here to prove that the disabilities we have in life...just might be the little spark of unique we need to get ahead.
I am constantly surrounded my individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It's my passion. While I spend a lot of time simply loving on them and spending time with them, I also demand that they see themselves as equal. There are things that might be harder to do, but there are plenty of ways they are just like everyone else. I am not advocating that people start treating my friends with special needs as if they are to be praised because they have a disability. However, I do believe it is time we recognize that they are also capable of becoming extremely successful. They too, are unstoppable. I am encouraging everyone to see themselves as Unstoppable human beings, capable of anything.
The first step to finding success, is finding why you deserve it. So here is my list. Here are a few reasons why I should be your new Miss Kansas.
* I'm well spoken. I love being put in situations in which I can speak about my passions, or have conversation with a total stranger. Miss Kansas should be someone willing to speak on behalf of the organization at all times. That is exactly what I have done for the organizations and committees I have been apart of previously.
* My platform is something I have been doing for years. I did not create a platform to be a part of the Miss Kansas Organization, I joined MKO because I knew my platform could be heard. Without a crown I have accomplished a lot for my personal platform. Miss Kansas should be someone who could succeed making a difference in her community without a crown, but chooses to use the Miss America Organization because she sees the opportunities the organization can provide her.
* I'm humble and willing to work. The work does not stop when Miss Kanas is crowned, and it continues after Miss America as well. Miss Kansas needs someone who is willing to be humbled over and over again, and willing to push herself to be the very best version she can be. As Miss Kansas it would be my goal to represent Kansas well in Miss America, as well as continue spreading my platform and serving Kansas. The reason community service is so stressed throughout the Miss America Organization is because it is what the organization stands for. Miss Kansas and Miss America should be willing to put the heels away and serve her community. She should be someone willing to step out of the spotlight if it means serving others and proving that she truly is passionate about people.
* I am passionate. I am ready. I am smart. I am dedicated.
I am Unstoppable.
