It is so easy to be a great person for a week. A month. You're stretching it if you say a year. But we are sinners. We get angry, impatient, or simply make some dumb decisions in our lives. But greatness for a few moments isn't what truly matters.
There's a little tune our choir director had us sing to warm up before shows. The lyrics were "consistency is key, the key is consistency". He would always talk about the importance of making each show a great one. It's not fair to give one audience a bad show because it's opening night, or we don't have as much energy for a Saturday matinee. Each audience paid the same amount to be there, and we were to be consistent. Of course that made sense. Why would I ever not put my best of the stage? The thrill of performing was always a rush to me, and I was never satisfied with not giving it my all for a show. But what about everyday life? I'm starting to think there was a bit more to his lesson than what most of us heard.
It's not enough to be great on the first day of a new job, it's about being consistent.
It's not enough to go to the gym on January 1st, you have to go consistently.
It's not enough to be kind to others for one day and think that's enough. Be consistent.
It's not enough to pray on Sunday and think you're done, its about being consistent.
The key to a good life? Be consistent.
Life never will be, that's okay. There's all kind of roller coasters through our journey. The people that prosper through it all, were consistent.
Consistency is key, the key is consistency.
